Frequently asked questions:

Why should I do the course with you?

I have been involved with the Dive Industry for more than 18 years, a PADI member for 16 years and a PADI Course Director for 9 years. In that time I have issued over 1600 instructor level certifications. I have the Platinum Course Director rating, one of only 65 in the world. I also teach at entry level, ask most Course Directors when they did that last. I'm also not tied to anyone particular centre so I don't get involved in politics.

I have also bben involved in Youth Diving projects, and military diving. I have degrees in Physiology and Education, and I am a trained Quality Assurance Engineer.

How much money do I need?

A rough estimate is £1500. That is for a PADI Divemaster to complete the Instructor Development Course, and attend the Instructor Examination, including materials. I work closely with the dive centres to ensure you get the best course for the best value.

I am already an Instructor can I do just the OWSI Programme?

The Open Water Scuba Instructor Program is basicaly the last 4 days of a full Instructor Development Course. The first 3 days is the Assistant Instructor Course and as such includes the information on how to teach in the 'PADI Way'. If you have no real in depth knowledge of the PADI System I would highly recommend that you do the full IDC. The hill is too steep to climb otherwise, plus you'll find it hard to integrate with the rest of the IDC group. I am also a BSAC Instructor so can do understand the systems that some candidates have been trained under.

Will I pass the IE?

Passing an IE is a result of preparation, both during the IDC and before. Prior to the course you need to ensure that you complete the knowledge reviews in the IDC Candidate Workbook, and also need to revise Divemaster level dive theory knowledge. There is no time scheduled on an IDC for theory, if you had trouble during your Divemaster course talk to your instructor for remediation. If they can't explain it then you can come for one of my 2 day dive theory revision days.

If you have done the above every effort will be made during the IDC to ensure that you'll pass the IE. You will be nervous, but so will everyone else, but you will be the best prepared.
